Food and Friends in London!
Long walks in the Edinburgh countryside
Forest Holiday for my friend Amy’s birthday
Everyone says “February went so quickly” but that’s because February’s a short month, duh. I’ve had a pretty great February. I started off the month with a long weekend in London, mostly eating all the food. We gorged on vegan all you can eat Chinese buffet at Dou Dou’s, queued for “chicken” burgers and popcorn “chicken” at Temple of Hackney, overindulged in vegan ice cream at Yorica and sipped on pink lattes and smoothies in Palm Vaults. I counteracted this unusually excessive amount of food spending with a gloriously relaxed Sunday afternoon and my Nana and Grandad’s place in Surrey, walking around the countryside and making mini vegan pancakes together.
The following weekend was filed with work events, but I don’t mind so much. Events are always more interesting than office work and I enjoy interacting with volunteers and the public! In my free time, James and I took two really long walks around Edinburgh. We wandered around Holyrood Park to Duddingston Loch, and the next day trekked to the south side of the city to climb one of Edinburgh’s seven hills – Blackford!
I was so happy to see my friends in Glasgow again recently when we whizzed over on the train for their house party. You guys, you can get an incredible flat for next to nothing in Glasgow, their place is huge! We were slightly late because James and I can’t go to Glasgow without eating at Flying Duck, apparently. We accidentally left after the metro had stopped running on Sunday night and, with both of our phones out of battery, had to navigate to a central station using road signs alone. Just like the olden days!
The weekend just gone I had the most indulgent long weekend away with my two besties. We rented a cabin in Sherwood Forest, complete with hot tub and pink fizz (it was Cava… we’re not that fancy.) I had to do some unexpected work for a couple of hours, but asides from that I was completely phone-signal-and-internet-free the whole weekend. It felt divine! I read before bed, took long luxurious baths and spent far more than the recommended time in the hot tub.
The forest is so beautiful – although we foolishly watched The Witch late at night, which gave me visions of demonic goats emerging from through the trees. I drank a little too much on the Saturday, but your friends only turn 25 once, right?!
In terms of New Year’s resolutions I feel like I’ve been making good progress in becoming more magical so far! There’s a really cool local co-op that delivers classes in herbalism and I’m excited to attend some. I’ve loved making my own cosmetics this month – my kitchen is starting to look more and more like an apothecary and I’m okay with that. I was given a scoby at a cooking workshop last night – I didn’t even know I wanted one until yesterday but I cannot wait until my first batch of home brewed kombucha has fermented! I feel like if I can learn how to properly forage and make my own food and medicines from scratch, I’ll be the person to know in the zombie apocalypse.
How did February treat you?
Your photos are so fun! And I love that red winged eyeliner!

Love how smiley you were in these pictures, you shiiiiine! Also how amazing does your getaway looks?! That glass window and the forest right outside. Instead, I struggle to walk down the bus stop fighting off smokers -_- I loved (major!) reading up on your recipes (we’re moving later this year and will hopefully be using the bath more) and have saved all of them already, hehe.
ALSO o m g can’t believe you can make your own kombucha – I haven’t tried it but heard about it so much so I’m so intrigued. It sounds like something I’d like, because I’m weird hahaha. My mum used to make her own yoghurt (before i stopped eating yoghurt as it makes me sick now ha) with her own bacteria (?) cultures…

Your February seemed great! I’m kind of glad February goes by quickly because March means spring! I love how green Scotland is even in the winter!
What a great month! You pack a lot of fun into life, Jess, and I love the photo of you and James!
