I’ve been thinking for a while about making a snack bowl with a hand coming out of the middle, but it was my Dad who had the genius idea of using a jewellery holder. Seriously, I had been researching ways to mould hands out of clay or pour Plaster of Paris into rubber gloves. This method is 100 times simpler! These hand shaped jewellery holders are really easy to find in charity shops (wash it first, obviously) or eBay if that fails. It’s a simple piece of decoration but I think it’s super effective. The painting itself is quick, you just have to wait a little while for the paint and the glue to dry. I’m going away with friends to a haunted house this weekend (spooookkky) and I think they’re going to freak out when I serve them crisps from this.
You will need:
Red and yellow glass paint (I used this brand)
Hand shaped jewellery holder (glass or porcelain)
Solvent free superglue (I used Bostik)
Flat bottomed snack bowl
Paintbrushes
Step 1: Wash and dry the jewellery hand before painting it. I began by painting yellow nails onto the hand, and then just dripped red glass paint down the fingers. If you make sure there’s a lot of paint on your brush, simply hold it against the hand until it drips down. The paint should spread out by itself to look bloody and realistic!
Step 2: Once the paint is dry, glue the hand onto the bottom of the bowl, and leave to dry overnight.
Once the glue is dry, you’re ready to pour in the snacks and scare your guests! I’m actually not sure if decorations like this are sold commercially (they probably are) but I bet this DIY is cheaper and more satisfying. I spent a blissful Sunday this week just working on Halloween crafts and watching movies like The Craft, The Addams Family and Hocus Pocus. There’s nothing better to get you in the festive spirit! Have you made any decorations this year?
Oh so creepy and fun! What a brilliant idea on the part of your dad! Saved loads of time, and has a really dainty look to it. I love it in contrast to the blood.
You’re so creative! XO – Alexandra

oh, this looks so good! what a great diy:-) i’ve not really done anything halloween-y this year, how sad. but i am looking forward to reading all of your posts i’ve missed! xxx
I never post as much Halloween stuff as I’d like to but I try my best! I’ve been away for the last 2 years so I don’t do things far enough in advance to make them and photograph them before Halloween rolls around. So glad you liked it xx
