Last week I was invited to a gorgeous event at La Favorita in Edinburgh by Birra Moretti. They put on lunch and cooking demonstrations for a bunch of bloggers and journalists. It was the first time I’ve been invited to a foodie event like this, so I was very excited! TV Chef Joe Hurd talked to us about the history of the beer and gave us some top tips for Italian cooking. It’s funny, I am not usually a fan of Italian food in the UK. I like pizza but I don’t like pasta and I don’t eat meat or cheese, so I usually avoid Italian restaurants. When I visited Rome with my family a couple of years ago I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the food there. The pizza that I ate at La Favorita was much more like the food that I ate in Italy than the stodgy Italian fare that I’m used to in Britain. I’ve been meaning to try out La Favorita for months as they’re often mentioned as a good place to get vegan food. I had a go at making my own pizza with vegan cheese and had one made for me and it was delicious! It was mild and creamy and it actually melted onto the dough unlike some vegan cheeses that I’ve tried. James was so jealous of my lunch that when I got home we ordered pizza from La Favorita for dinner too and ate it on the park as the sun was setting.
Birra Moretti is an Italian lager and it’s vegan too! It’s a nice beer to have with food because it’s fairly light and not too filling. They’re preparing for the Moretti Gran tour on 9th July which will take place in Summerhall in Edinburgh and involves a lot of foodie stalls, beer and cooking demos. If you’re in the area, it should be a good event to check out and hopefully you’ll see me there!
Jess, this looked so good I had to get up & fix a dinner salad, with crackers & cheese ~ a sad substitution.
Glad you two are having fun!
